JOZAN FOREST

monkey 2It is the only remaining natural forest on Unguja island where in the past you could find antelopes and leopards. Jozani Forest is 35 kilometres south-east of Zanzibar Town and has an area of about 1,000 hectares.

You can spend a few hours in this sanctuary exploring the exotic vegetation, seeing the local flora up close, and getting close to the Red Colobus monkeys that are native to Unguja. They are friendly and jovial, allowing visitors to approach them as they playfully run around.

Programme

Half-day excursion. beginning at 8:00 a.m.

You have the option of selecting a private excursion, allowing you to pick the time of departure. It is preferable time to visit the monkeys in the morning, though, for better chances of being welcomed.

Recommendations

It is advised to bring your sunscreen and insect repellent, as well as walking shoes, a hat, or cap. Of course, don’t forget your camera to record the treasure trove of unspoiled beauty you will encounter.
